It's possible to believe that the same people who bought Bill Clinton's autobiography, My Life, are also those who are forking over $10 for a copy of The 9/11 Commmission Report, but whoever they are, their numbers are impressive.
Locally, our own Big 3 - Books & Co. in Kettering, Borders Books & Music in Miami Twp., and both Barnes & Noble's Miami Twp. and Beavercreek locations - sold out of the quality paperback edition within days - sometimes hours - of its release, making the book a bonafide best seller. It's better than that: Not only are copies flying off shelves across the country, they're doing so without any need for marketing, author royalties and book-tour arrangements.

The closure of all of Borders' 399 bookstores nationwide -- including 18 in Maryland -- is not only a dramatic illustration of the changing publishing industry, experts said Tuesday, but also reveals the delicate relationship between large companies facing industry-specific problems and the commercial real estate market.
It's the same thing we saw with Blockbuster," said Bill Holzman, the vice president of retail leasing at Baltimore-based St. John Properties Inc., which owns and has developed more than 14 million square feet of commercial, office, retail and warehouse space in Maryland and four other states. "It became too easy, cost effective and too common to get movies, books, whatever, via the Internet, Kindles, TiVo.

Before Bethel Park was an inner-ring suburb, it was an industrial town. Before that, it was a mining community, and before that, it wasn't much at all.
Coming into Bethel Township 100 years ago, you'd be moving into the country. Even when I moved here, it wasn't the same," said Mayor Clifford Morton, a resident for about 60 years.
