Two years after it rejected a proposed radioactive-waste incinerator that had sparked a citywide uproar, the Land Use Control Board Thursday approved plans by another Presidents Island firm to process tanks containing small amounts of radiation.
The board without dissent approved a temporary special-use permit allowing Energy Solutions to conduct a one-time operation in which a Navy barge laden with tanks will be dismantled and processed under a Department of Defense contract.

The board of the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce voted against proceeding with plans for the annual July 4 fireworks show.
The Chamber of Commerce traditionally splits the cost of the show with the town, but that arrangement ended last year. The chamber's executive director, Eleanor Vadenais, said the estimated costs for the show would have been about $49,000, which board members deemed too expensive.
