This paper addresses the enormous opportunity and promise that the new American President, President Barack Obama must address as he provides a new form of leadership and charts a new, more worldview American administration; one that he has announced to be more collaborative, and inclusive. The paper also provides an introspection into America's continuing difficulty at resolving the issue of Race relations, and the limiting impact that it is having on America fulfilling the opportunity for unleashing the country's full capacity for creativity and innovation. The issue of Race could retard America at establishing a foundation for helping to shape America's global competitive strategy, and for reaffirming America's leadership as a balanced and reasonable world power; one that retains the...
I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you've bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors," [Barack Obama] said during his inaugural address. ' 'Today, we gather because we've chosen hope over fear. . .Starting today we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America. . .We are ready to lead once more. "This is so exciting," she said of Obama's address. "I was just overwhelmed." "Booo-ush! Booo-ush! Booo-ush!" the crowd yelled. Later, another close-up of [George W. Bush] flashed on the screen. The crowd went into song: "Nah nah nah nah. Nah nah nah nah. Hey, hey, hey. Goodbye."
Although much was made of the candidates' ages, like Kennedy, [Barack Obama] has an air about him that belies his age. He does not come across as youthful in the literal or figurative sense. Neither Kennedy nor Obama would be considered spry like, say, Sen. John Edwards in 2004. Not as memorable as Kennedy's 1961 mantra, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," Obama's, "Yes We Can" has found a receptive audience. Voters are hungry for a candidate they can believe in and one who believes in and will ifivest in them. Obama's and Kennedy's differences are just as telling. On civil rights Obama and Kennedy have little in common. Obama was a civil rights attorney and community organizer. Kennedy's reputation as a civil rights activist is undeserved. ...
[Barack Obama] made history by becoming the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He also represented fairness and a willingness to collaborate among his colleagues. He convinced people who were far to the left and far to the right that he would treat them equally and with respect. Under his tenure, he ensured that no one would be excluded because of their political persuasions. It was his calm demeanor, sound judgment and sober, careful thinking that made him such a popular force at Harvard Law School. After graduating Harvard Law School with honors, Barack had the opportunity, as the president of the Harvard Law Review, to clerk for the United States Supreme Court. He had the option of making a sixfigure salary at a prestigious law firm. He did neither. Before ev...
President Barack Obama has failed to match changes of tone with changes in substance on the issue of George Bush's war crimes. "We need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards," he answered when asked whether he would investigate America's worst human-rights abuses since World War II. Indeed, there's no evidence that Obama's Justice Department plans to lift a finger to hold Bush or his henchmen accountable. Which is similar to what Obama said about the torturers: "At the CIA, you've got extraordinarily talented people who are working very hard to keep Americans safe. I don't want them to suddenly feel like they've got to spend all their time looking over their shoulders and lawyering up." Don't you just hate being micromanaged when you're torturing people? Ah, the great shell ga...
