I'm not going to oppose it." - Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, when asked about a federal attack on Colorado's medical marijuana dispensaries.
It is hard to find a better, more hardworking lawyer than Suthers, whom The Gazette enthusiastically endorsed for re-election in 2010. Our endorsement was made with full knowledge of a troubling bias that Suthers allows to affect his job. He abhors the decision of Colorado residents - his clients - that legalized medicinal marijuana, including sale and distribution. Amendment 20 states: "'Medical use' means the acquisition, possession, production, use, or transportation of marijuana ..." Since nothing is acquired, possessed, produced, used or transported for free, this law protects commerce.

Too often, prepaid card companies engage in "bait and switch" practices that slash the minutes advertised for phone calls, such as destination surcharges, periodic maintenance fees, and call termination fees. Though prepaid calling cards are a $4 billion industry nationwide, only about 11 states have laws protecting consumers from deceptive companies, including California, which has some of the tough...

There is no comparison between [Ted Strickland]'s veto of Senate bill 117 and the legislative leaders' "revision" of House Bill 694, House spokesperson Karen Tabor said. "We believe they are apples to oranges comparisons. One was a clerical error, with regard to House Bill 694; the other was a violation of constitutional standards.
There is a policy significance to the issue. The bill that Strickland vetoed was passed in a lame-duck session after the General Assembly, earlier in the year, had received plaudits for strengthening Ohio's laws against predatory lending. By passing Senate Bill 117 - over Democratic opposition - it seemed the Republicans were pushing their own version of "bait and switch." By vetoing the bill, Strickland was sending a signal to the legislature that he would ...
