Music programs deserve support
Nice work to all the young jazz students and their directors who played at the recent Clark College Jazz Festival. The Jan. 31 Columbian story Local musicians win numerous jazz festival awards shows the success many of our local schools enjoyed bringing home individual soloist awards and trophies for outstanding performances. And, outstanding they are.

Graduating senior members of the Assisteens, the teen auxiliary of the Assistance League of Redlands, were honored recently at the annual Medallion Dinner, held at Cope Middle School.
The "Ooh-La-La" Paris- themed dinner, attended by 200 Assisteens and guests, also included presentation of trophies and awards, installation of board members and welcoming of new members. Greg Abt, of ABTsolutely Gourmet catered a French-inspired dinner.

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS -- Over the years, Pilot's Log, the newspaper at Hasbrouck Heights High School, has won numerous awards and trophies for its newsy stories, thought-provoking editorials and crafty layout.
That trend continued last weekend when the student newspaper won a Pacemaker Award. Pilot's Log was one of 20 winners of the prestigious contest, considered the highest national honor in journalism on the high school level, school officials said.

* The pastors need to start telling people about God and start trying to get souls saved while they are still permitted to do so, stop preaching politics from the pulpit, and stop wasting time meddling and bickering about what a school is named.
* Many Generation X-aged kids collected achievement and participation awards and trophies just for being in the classroom or on the ball team. Today those kids are adults in the workplace thinking they deserve a check just for being there.

Mention his numerous awards, and football coach Chuck Lenahan will quickly point out that the sea of trophies and mounted plaques are tributes to his dedicated players, assistant coaches and an administration that has proudly stood behind Plymouth Regional High School's athletic programs.

The best of the county's young bowlers were honored at the annual Lancaster USBC Association's Junior Bowling banquet Sunday, June 24, at the Eden Resort.
More than 150 people applauded the recipients of 225 awards, with two of the top honorees being Chelsey Merklinger, who captured eight awards, and Eric Erb, who took home nine trophies.
