Passenger air carriers have two years to fully implement regulations drafted to prevent pilots from flying while fatigued. The Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday released the new rules, prompted in large part by the February 2009 crash of a regional airline in which 50 people were killed. An investigation of the crash, which occurred near Buffalo, N.Y., indicated the pilots were fatigued when Continental Connection Flight 3407 took off, although pilot error was listed as the official cause of the accident.
