Network directory interoperability - Technology Information Network directories are repository databases containing all information needed to locate and identify users and resources on a LAN or WAN and administer data. Directories simplify the task of administering network user accounts, help apply user-access and QoS policies, and give users authenticated digital identities. Organizations are using more and more proprietary directories and having difficulty integrating them.. Industry leaders IBNM, Novell, Lotus and Oracle have formed the Directory Interoperability Forum (DIF), which seeks to expedite development of directory applications that work across platforms and overcome the weaknesses of the existing LDAP standard. Ultimately, this quad will consist of 8 acres of artfully landscaped and thoughtfully designed spaces for classrooms and offices devoted to science and engineering students and researchers. One advantage of the change to a digital library is that all authorized users are provided the same level of access whether they are inside the brick-and-mortar building or sitting in an off-site location. The new Stanford Engineering Library is a work in progress. The only major change from that of a conventional library is the expectation th...
