An unstoppable phenomenon is sweeping into school auditoriums, and its name is "High School Musical. More than 800 schools nationwide have bought rights to the musical, including 22 in New Jersey. At North Jersey schools that have staged the show, drama directors are describing unprecedented popularity, with sold-out performances and adoring crowds.
Two new high schools in Falcon School District 49 are millions over budget and could lose basic features such as auditoriums, paved parking lots, landscaping and football stadiums under possible cutbacks being reviewed by the school board. District construction officials blame the cost overrun on the rising cost of building materials and laborers, and they say it's happening in construction projects everywhere. Copper, used in the schools' plumbing and wiring, increased $360,000 in two months, they told the board and community members at a meeting Monday.
BEAVERCREEK -- Rave Motion Pictures 14 at The Greene has started serving alcohol on a limited basis in age-restricted auditoriums, giving patrons the opportunity to enjoy beer, wine or a cocktail with their movie, company officials said. Rave at The Greene in recent weeks began offering in-theater alcohol sales on Friday and Saturday nights in two designated, reserved-seating auditoriums, said Jeremy Devine, the company's vice president of marketing. The theater also offers alcohol sales at Thursday midnight shows in a separate, age-restricted auditorium.

On Tuesday, a group of parents, community members and health professionals gathered at Broadway Christian Church to discuss a new program the church has been working on over the past nine months. Senior Minister Tim Carson said the church "noticed a large part of the community can't access religious congregations because of their children's needs." Families of children with autism, in particular, mentioned they were unable to stay inside their churches' sanctuaries and auditoriums because of the learning needs and perceived disruptive behavior of their children. Churches that did try to make adaptations often had a lack of professional resources.
