WASHINGTON | Reigniting a partisan fight over banking regulations, President Barack Obama intends to nominate former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray to lead a consumer protection bureau that was a central feature of a law overhauling the rules that govern the financial sector. Obama plans to announce the nomination formally today, the White House said Sunday. Republicans immediately threatened to block Cordray's Senate confirmation.
WASHINGTON, Feb. 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a transcript of a press conference with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on the Ohio terrorism indictments: ATTORNEY GENERAL GONZALES: Good afternoon. COLUMBUS, Ohio - Risking impeachment, Ohio's attorney general on Monday refused demands from the governor and other fellow Democrats that he resign over a sexual harassment scandal in his office and an affair with a subordinate. Gov. Ted Strickland told reporters that Democrats will begin drafting an impeachment resolution against Attorney General Marc Dann right away. Republican House Speaker Jon Husted said Monday that his chamber - which takes the first step in any impeachment - was already reviewing the process.
CEDARVILLE -- It's not ALL about the pie. There is the politicking. And the Young's Jersey Dairy ice cream. But the pie at former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine's annual ice cream social definitely was something people came for and remembered. DeWine is running for Ohio attorney general. He will face Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray in the fall.
Ohio's Democratic attorney general resigned yesterday after members of his own party threatened to impeach him over his extramarital affair with a female staff member and a sexual- harassment investigation in his office. Marc Dann, 46, admitted May 2 to an affair with an employee that he said contributed to an atmosphere leading to sexual-harassment claims against a top aide. Three aides were forced out in the harassment investigation prompted by two 26-year-old female staffers, which showed managers encouraged a casual work environment with frequent profanity and inappropriate interactions with subordinates.
