LEWISTON - Owner Carole Dunn announces that CaroleAnn's Bargain Boutique, 685 Sabattus St., Lewiston, will be open for business beginning Oct. 28 with an open house celebration continuing until Oct. 31. Shop hours during the open house are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dunn has been developing the secondhand shop since May. The boutique is set up in a cozy, homelike atmosphere. Merchandise includes home furnishings, books, CDs, DVDs, decor, seasonal and nonseasonal adult and children's clothing, gifts and more. Refreshments and door prizes will be offered during the open house event. The owner hopes to announce a "Grand Opening" in November.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board has issued its draft report on three 2010 releases at DuPont's Belle plant, describing the phosgene release that resulted in the death of veteran plant employee Carl Daniel "Danny" Fish and revealing a near miss hours earlier. DuPont originally blamed the Jan. 23, 2010, phosgene release on the sudden rupture of a braided steel and Teflon hose that was connected to one of two phosgene tanks. The Chemical Safety Board focused on the hose from the beginning of its investigation and it, too, cited the hose's failure for the phosgene release.
