After the effects of Hurricane Katrina last year, our board became concerned about what responsibilities we have for our residents in times of disaster? Can we be held liable if someone refuses to evacuate? What steps should we take to protect the property?
The areas of responsibility differ for a homeowners association and a condominium. Because of the nature of ownership, the responsibilities of the condominium are probably greater. While both associations have a responsibility to preserve and protect the commonly owned property, there is little that a board can do in a homeowners association where owners insure and maintain their own residences.

Traditionally, we have learned our gardening beliefs, rules and habits from family members and neighbors -- "over the back fence," we used to say -- and from classes and books.
In recent years, surveys by gardening associations reveal a change. Gardeners now glean most of their information from television and the Internet.

Bowling has long depended on the time, dedication and expertise of volunteers to keep the administrative needs of the sport at the highest level.
No count has ever been made of the numbers, but a modest estimate in past years has been well above 100,000. That was when there were more than 5,000 local and state bowling associations. With the merging of many associations, there are now some 3,000 local groups under the United States Bowling Congress and the volunteers are vital.

Jerrod Shouse is living proof that you don't have to be a gray- haired sage to get things done at the Oklahoma Capitol. Through his own hard work and persistence, he has established Shouse & Associates Consulting, which provides lobbying and government relations services to businesses, professional associations and others.
Now five years old, the firm counts small businesses and Fortune 500 companies among its clientele. "I work with some great clients, and I am very blessed," Shouse said. "My clients provide jobs, support their local tax base and are led by people who are active in their communities.

If the big media in 2008 had dedicated the resources they are now squandering on Sarah Palin's emails from when she was governor of Alaska and probed Barack Obama's background and associations, she might now be vice president of the United States and Obama might still be a junior Illinois senator.
Regardless of what you think of Palin, the vultures attacking her 24,000 pages of emails may represent the most flagrant example of bias since, well, since their attacks on any other Republican. "It could be fun," said Ken Schwenke of the Los Angeles Times about the email probe.

Michigan has been hemorrhaging jobs for eight straight years and the Michigan Business Tax (MBT) only added to this demise," said Edward Deeb, president of both associations. "Businesses in Michigan now have hope and can look ahead to better days, and we thank Gov. [Snyder] for the opportunity to make our state thrive again.
Deeb wholeheartedly supports Snyder's desire to work with MEDC to reduce department redundancy and his philosophy of economic gardening: Keeping Michigan's current businesses in Michigan should have always been priority number one, and it is refreshing to hear that will be one of his main focuses in job retention.

For years Clark County has provided a chipper service to neighborhood associations drowning in downed wood. Now money for the chipper has been cut, and thats not all. Expect to notice a reduction in roadway cleanup and paving programs this year.
