Downward trends in U.S. manufacturing are threatening the nation's long-term economic growth and living standards, according to a new report from two industrial trade groups. Leadership and innovation also are at risk as fewer young people choose manufacturing for a career, says the report from the National Association of Manufacturers and the Council of Manufacturing Associations, based in Washington, D.C.

More than 350 bankers from 49 states, Puerto Rico and Washington DC, met last month at ABA's newly expanded Government Relations Summit in Washington, DC. Representatives from at least 48 state bankers associations and other groups also attended. It was the first meeting in which all bankers were invited to participate along with the ABA Government Relations Council. During the two-day Government Relations Summit, Federal Reserve Governor Randall Kroszner said the Fed will conduct a review of the credit card industry, which started with a one-day forum the agency hosted this month.
