Let's take John Storey, Northeast Regional Director Association of Christian Schools International, at his word that school choice "is not about giving up on the public schools," that it is about preparing high school graduates "for the global marketplace they will face in the future" (Oct. 19).

The East Dayton Christian Junior High girls team, with the help of several players from Greene County, completed a 19-0 season Feb. 20 with a state championship.
The Eagles won their second Ohio Association of Christian Schools International state junior high title with a 27-8 win over Celeryville Christian from Willard.

At the recent Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Math Olympic Competition held at Evangelical Christian School in Cordova, students in the third through eighth grades competed in the areas of math computation and math reasoning with students from among 10 schools from the Memphis, Dyersburg, and Franklin, Tenn., areas.
Of the 36 Southern Baptist Educational Center students who qualified for the math competition, 13 students placed in the top five positions for their grade. In the math computation category for the third grade, Abby Stine placed third and Anna Claire Young took fifth place.

TVSC girls notch 38-26 home win
Teays Valley Christian School Varsity girls opened the first round of Association of Christian Schools International with a 38- 26 victory at home against Granville, Ohio.

ORRVILLE -- Hannah Falkenberg from Wooster Christian School captured first place in the Association of Christian Schools International District Spelling Bee held at Kingsway Christian School on Jan. 30 with 77 spellers.
Second place went to Alexis Webber of Wooster Christian School. Sydney Mullen from Wooster Christian School came in third and Gabrielle Swartzentruber from Kingsway Christian School took home the fourth-place ribbon.

Approximately 500 grade school, middle school and high school students from across the state converged on Putnam County when Teays Valley Christian School recently hosted the statewide Academic Day for member schools of the Association of Christian Schools International.

HOULTON - Mark Jago, the head of school at Greater Houlton Christian Academy, recently announced his retirement. Jago has spent 30 years in Christian education and administration.
He will continue to serve in his current capacity through 2009 to assure completion of the school's dual accreditation with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of Christian Schools International.

Eleven pupils from Augusta Christian Schools recently won at the Association of Christian Schools International district spelling bee at Ben Lippen School in Columbia.
The first- through eighth-graders won first, second, and third places for their grade levels, competing against eight schools from Columbia, Spartanburg, and Greenville, S.C. The pupils were coached by teachers Tammy West and Sandra Scales.
