Quarters for Kenya has raised more than $100,000 in the past year toward its goal of $250,000 over the next two years.
The money will aid the current Shepherd's Home, complete and open the second home, named for the late Redlands Rotarian Charles Kean, in January, and fund a third home. The third is for boys, which is expected to open in 2006 in the Nairobi area. It will be named for Zeba, an employee of the firm Maupin is associated with, Associated Securities Corp. That firm has raised more than $30,000 in the Quarters for Kenya campaign. Zeba was a native of Kenya, as was Charles Kean. She left her native country and came to America, but maintained a family and roots in her native land. The boys' home will be a permanent memorial to her, Maupin said.
