IT IS INTERESTING that members of the Rural Women New Zealand organisation in Taranaki were moved to organise a celebrity debate to reassert their relevance. The debate, on the moot "Tea and scones are the backbone of the rural community", came about because organisers of a Women in Dairying conference in New Plymouth earlier this year felt something of a slight when the conference caterers served scones, jam and cream at the morning and afternoon tea breaks.
