  • A Paterson man was convicted Friday of aggravated manslaughter in connection with striking a woman with his vehicle early on Thanksgiving 2007, putting her in the back seat, going home to bed and leaving her in the SUV to die. Melvin Rainey, 47, was found guilty by a jury seated before state Superior Court Judge Salem Ahto in Paterson of all the most serious counts he faced -- aggravated manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, endangering an injured victim, hindering his own prosecution and tampering with evidence.
