Bartlett aldermen approved Mayor Keith McDonald's selection of Dick Phebus as the suburb's new assistant finance director Tuesday night, but not without a debate over whether the appointment was necessary.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen endorsed the hiring on a 4-2 vote with Aldermen Bobby Simmons and John Barzano dissenting. Phebus is slated to start around Aug. 1. McDonald noted the appointment means the city's two top finance positions are filled for the first time in more than a year.

Daisytown native Sean King is the new assistant sports information director at St. Vincent College.
A 2009 graduate of St. Vincent, King returns to his alma mater after completing his master's degree in sports management at California University of Pennsylvania, where he served as a graduate assistant in sports Information under Matt Kifer. He is also a California Area High School graduate.

All of a sudden, Ohio has new top leadership in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. On Wednesday, Gov. John Kasich announced that ODNR assistant director Scott Zody is now interim director, replacing director David Mustine, who moves to JobsOhio to oversee energy development.
I'm grateful that Scott has agreed to step up and lead ODNR as a permanent leadership decision is being finalized," Kasich said. "His longtime service with the department has earned him respect within the natural resources community and his experience will allow him to be a steady hand.

DAYTON -- The former assistant band director at Brookville High School, accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student, was ordered to spend 10 days in the Montgomery County Jail and spared prison.
Common Pleas Judge Mary Katherine Huff-man told Adam Hardy his actions were "beyond inappropriate," but said prison was not necessary as "you have essentially destroyed the working career that you intended." Still, if Hardy violates the conditions of his five- year probation, he'll have to serve six years in prison, the maximum for the two charges he was convicted of, Huffman said.
