Library media specialists in Indiana developed a Correlation of the Information Literacy Standards (AASL/AECT 1998) and Indiana's Academic Standards. The historical timeline is one of the more obvious options, but the charting of a sequence of events covers a variety of activities, for example, plot of a fiction book or drama, steps of a process, or the important events in the life of a famous person (see Figure 5, page 24). Used in conjunction with the evidence gathered by classroom teachers, library media specialists can show how the library media program supports the content standards and student achievement.

Although previous studies have indicated that public relations educators and professionals agreed that PR education was on target, this e-mail survey shows no substantial evidence of agreement. PRSSA professional advisors are not convinced that faculty are teaching the skills students need in industry. Professional advisors value more than do faculty advisors a curriculum that emphasizes practical experience in new media, internships, preparing students for their first job, and "hands-on experience." Professional advisors are more inclined to suggest that professionals should be involved with assessing student work, including student portfolios and final projects in capstone campaign courses.

Accrediting bodies, including AACSB, have aggressive standards that require universities to assess student learning. Many institutions initially responded by developing multiple measure plans that assess general satisfaction of instruction within a major, student performance on a nationally normed business knowledge exams, and curriculum content and coverage through the use of focus or stakeholder groups. Unfortunately, these multiple measure plans do not adequately assess student learning goals specific to the university's program, nor do they provide direct information that would help a faculty member improve student learning in his or her course. Because of these drawbacks, many universities are now turning to Course Embedded Assessment (CEA) as their primary method to assess student...

The authors analyzed data on the information processing abilities of incarcerated youth (n = 1480) within a correctional center. The goal was to develop a learning style profile of the juvenile offenders. Based on the current sample, they concluded that the bulk of the students were figural learners in terms of the preferred modality for receiving information. Their strongest processing abilities were creativity (15% scored in the superior range) and memory (29.2% scored in the superior range). With regard to the level of complexity, the students' strengths were in relationships and transformations. Transformations are very similar to creativity and confirm the need to allow for a classroom structure that promotes student involvement, movement, open-ended questioning, and contributions....

When students clearly understood the learning objectives, knew precisely what success would look like, understood how each assignment contributed to their success, could articulate the role of assessment in ensuring their success, and understood that their work correlated with their needs, they developed a sense of self-efficacy that was powerful in their lives as learners (2008b, 13). Reflection Logs fora Project Plan When students engage in a librarysupported research project, the following types of guided prompts can be used to focus on the feasibility and effectiveness of the plan: *What is my work plan? *What am I trying to achieve? *How realistic are my goals, given my time frame? *What part of this especially intrigues me? *What strategies have I tried?

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. To keep pace with this growth, India's educational infrastructure must produce an ever increasing number of high-skilled graduates. This study was conducted to obtain insights about motivation and learning styles of Indian students majoring in business. A key issue in this study is an assessment of the role of the teacher (lecturer) in influencing the motivation/learning styles of their students. Business students are motivated by faculty members who encourage active participation, seek their opinions and provide ample opportunities for expressing their thoughts. Students are also seeking faculty who are well versed in their fields who come to class with a sense of energy and enthusiasm. Faculty members should change their teac...

BANGOR, Maine -- A unique nationwide study of student performance found that Maine is one of only 13 states making significant progress in the area of mathematics. Reading scores are stagnant in Maine and many other states, prompting the state's education commissioner to call for an overhaul of the century-old learning system.
The 2011 National Assessment of Education Progress data are unique, according to the Department of Education, because they show an apples-to-apples comparison between Maine and the other states. The program, which released its nationwide findings Tuesday, relied on testing of fourth- and eighth-grade students in math and reading.
