The Reverend Dr. E. Clayton Calhoun, Jr., age 97, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Givens Estates in Asheville, following a period of declining health.
Born in Douglas, Ga., he spent his early life in northern Florida. He was the son of the late Rev. Eugene Clayton Calhoun and Minerva Augusta Barnes Calhoun. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Frankie Salina Morgan Calhoun who passed away in 2006; a son, Eugene Clayton Calhoun, III; a sister, Mary C. Calhoun; and a brother, Ashley Barnes Calhoun.

Dr. L. Roo and Nellie McKenzie of Redlands announce the engagement of their daughter Kari Ann McKenzie to Byron Carleton Ashley Barnes, son of Pastor Baldwin and Dr. Pollyanna Barnes of White Plains, N.Y.
Kari and Byron met while attending high school in Berrien Springs, Mich. Though they were at Andrews Academy together for only one year, the memory was enough to entice Byron to reconnect with Kari 14 years later.

Ashley Barnes of Charleston, a psychology major at West Virginia University, was one of 14 WVU students named 2008 McNair Scholars recently.
With the scholarship, Barnes will receive academic stipends, faculty mentors, graduate school placement assistance and professional development opportunities to aid in identifying and gaining admission into master's and doctoral programs.
