The three artists -- Lia Cook, Mariko Kusumoto and Anne Drew Potter -- whose works are on display at Society for Contemporary Craft in the Strip District couldn't be any more different from one another; yet, together, they form the most unique "Bridge" exhibit yet. The "Bridge" exhibition series was first presented at the society in 1988 to heighten the public's awareness of the powerful work being produced by contemporary artists and to help break down the traditional barriers between the fields of craft and fine art.

This year's 30th annual Village Venture Arts and Crafts Faire is Saturday, Oct. 22. It is a one-day event, with 480 vendor booths and about 20,000 visitors. There will be all kinds of artists and their works represented using lots of different kinds of media, international foods, and a Halloween costume parade for children with a lineup starting at 9:15 a.m. Admission to the faire is free and it happens rain or shine. Where do the volunteers come in? People, over the age of 18, are needed to sign up to work three-hour shifts between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Their duties will be to ensure the safety of vendors and the public. Translated, that means that sometimes people may need to be discouraged from doing what they want to if others could be harmed.
