There is some very nice alfalfa standing in area fields right now, leading to the "to cut or not to cut" dilemma. Cut now and you have more feed to get through the winter. Cut now and risk depleting taproot reserves on re-growth yet this fall, and winter damage to alfalfa crowns. Plus, it just hurts to see a beautiful stand left uncut dry up and wither over the winter even if it is protecting crowns from cold injury and heaving.

SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County -- Friendships can seal business deals, and that's especially true when you're dealing in cattle.
Ricky Guidry of Bell City, La., a consignor in the Greenhorn family's Shorthorn cattle sale near Waynesville last month, said his son, Lance, showed cattle with Josh Greenhorn. Their friendship budded into a business relationship between the two families. Josh Greenhorn, 24, serves as herdsman to a handful of cattle owned jointly by the Guidrys and Greenhorns.
