SUFFOLK | Capping a four-month narcotics investigation, police made two arrests in an early morning raid Wednesday and seized about $2,000 worth of heroin, $52,000 in cash and $13,000 worth of weapons and electronic equipment.
Capt. Dean Smith said Malcolm Quinton Edmond, 37, and Jelisa Antoinette Lewis, 21, both of Suffolk, were arrested at a residence on Jackson Road at 5:35 a.m. in a raid involving 30 Suffolk police officers. Both were charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute heroin, and possession of firearms while distributing heroin.

A criminal investigation continues into the case of a University of Missouri police officer who resigned in April after supervisors learned of a flash drive found in a patrol vehicle that allegedly contained pornographic images of children.
Officer Nathan Roberts submitted his resignation after a weeklong investigation by the department's Internal Affairs Division. Chief Jack Watring confirmed the resignation in April.

TAMPA, Fla. - A 21-year-old rape victim who was helping police search for her attacker was thrown in jail for two nights when an officer found a warrant accusing her of not paying restitution for an earlier theft.
While she was locked up, a jail worker refused to give her a second dose of a morning-after pill to prevent a potential pregnancy because of religious convictions, said Vic Moore, the college student's attorney. She was released from jail Monday night only after Mr. Moore reported her plight to the local media.

YELLOW SPRINGS -- The brother of a civil rights worker slain in Mississippi in 1964 said Friday it's "appropriate" that authorities there have arrested a 79-year-old preacher and reputed Ku Klux Klansman on murder charges in the deaths of Michael Schwerner and two others.
But Stephen Schwerner, retired professor and dean of students for Antioch University, said he hopes there is more investigation into whether people with ties to the Mississippi government had involvement in the slayings, dramatized in the 1988 film Mississippi Burning.

A stolen car investigation led detectives yesterday to a fugitive who tried to barricade himself in the attic of an apartment in south Columbia, police said.
At about 3 p.m., police said, a detective found a car that had been reported stolen from another jurisdiction in the Hyde Park neighborhood in south Columbia. Patrol officers arrived to assist and stopped the car.

Laura Morse said she wasn't at all surprised to hear that Doris Amanda Ayala Escalante had been arrested earlier this week by U.S. Immigration and Customs officials.
Morse, a supervisor at Worcester Wreath Co. in Harrington, is familiar with Escalante and her husband, Juan Manuel Centeno Perez.
