NEW HAVEN -- Police are investigating two separate alleged armed robberies during which the suspects got physical with the victims. In the incident early Friday, a clerk at the Shell Gas Station at 1228 Quinnipiac Ave. reported that he was eating his "lunch" just before 3:30 a.m. and two men, one holding what may have been a shotgun, came into the store and forced him into a closet. The men took an undermined amount of money, police said. The clerk suffered an injury to his face when he was pushed into the closet, police said.
BELFAST On Thursday morning a bloodstain was evident on the pavement on Smart Road where police shot an armed 26-year-old Swanville man the night before. Police had tried to pull over Benjamin Thompson in neighboring Searsport for an undisclosed reason, but he reportedly kept driving. When he finally did stop at about midnight near the intersection of Route 141 and Smart Road in Belfast, Thompson stepped out of his car with a shotgun in hand, according to the Belfast Police Department. Although police from Searsport and Belfast demanded he put the gun down, Thompson allegedly did not comply. Belfast police Officer Dan Fitzpatrick then shot the man.
MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County -- A gunman said to be wearing camouflaged clothing pointed an assault rifle at a clerk to obtain narcotics from the Walgreens store at 5901 Springboro Pike on Saturday afternoon before police shot him during an armed exchange outside the store, police said. There were at least 10 customers and employees inside the store at the time of the shooting, according to police. Only the gunman was injured in the shootout just across Ohio 741 from a Meijer store.
Search is on for five men after armed robbery Colorado Springs police are looking for five men who held up a driver at gunpoint and hit a passenger with a gun early today in south Colorado Springs.
Christiansburg police were still searching Monday afternoon for a man they believe to be armed and connected with the theft of a pickup truck. Town spokeswoman Becky Wilburn named the man as Edward Hamilton DeHart Jr., 48. She said police have obtained warrants charging him with felony larceny of a vehicle and felony possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
A cache of loaded firearms was discovered in the Wayne home of a man who kept officers at bay for hours Tuesday, leading authorities to believe he had prepared for a showdown. Police seized at least five rifles and handguns from the home of Basil N. Stephanatos, a Sheriff's Office spokesman said.
LONG BEACH -- Police issued a warning Wednesday following a rash of armed robberies that included a 16-year-old girl who was hospitalized after she was struck with a gun. Three armed robberies, each occurring within about 20 minutes of the other, were carried out between late Tuesday through early Wednesday, said Nancy Pratt, a Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman.
PETERSBURG - Police are looking for a woman they say robbed a man March 19. Stephanie Flint, 27, of Colonial Heights has been identified by police as a suspect in the armed robbery that occurred at the victim's home last month. Petersburg Police Spokeswoman Esther Hyatt said that Flint and a man entered the victim's home in the 2100 block of County Drive in the city.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas - An armed eighth-grader gunned down by police officers in the hallway of his Texas middle school Wednesday was brandishing a pellet gun that looked like a firearm, and he refused repeated orders to lower the weapon before the officers opened fire, police said. The carbon-dioxide powered pellet gun Jaime Gonzalez, 15, was holding looked like a handgun, and the initial report to police that sent officers rushing to Cummings Middle School Wednesday morning was for a student seen holding a gun, Orlando Rodriguez, Brownsville's interim police chief, said at a news conference.
