In February of last year, Portland City Council approved the demolition of the Kiernan Building, also known as the former home of the Dirty Duck Tavern. This month, Portland will bid farewell to the building.
SERA Architects-designed new Blanchet House of Hospitality, this week's featured On The Boards project, will replace the Dirty Duck. Blanchet House, a soup kitchen and transitional housing facility, is currently located in a 100-year-old building on the same block. Its new facility on the Dirty Duck property will be nearly three times the size at four stories and more than 36,000 square feet. (Blanchet House was able to increase from a three- to four-story option because of acquired funding).
