The historic Academy Theater in the Montavilla neighborhood will be donating 15 percent of its concessions sales on March 11 to support the Architectural Heritage Center.
Originally opened in 1948, the theater was closed in the 1970s. A full-scale renovation was performed on the theater, and it was reopened in 2005 with a restored rounded lobby, new neon signage and three screens with stadium seating.

In February of last year, Portland City Council approved the demolition of the Kiernan Building, also known as the former home of the Dirty Duck Tavern. This month, Portland will bid farewell to the building.
SERA Architects-designed new Blanchet House of Hospitality, this week's featured On The Boards project, will replace the Dirty Duck. Blanchet House, a soup kitchen and transitional housing facility, is currently located in a 100-year-old building on the same block. Its new facility on the Dirty Duck property will be nearly three times the size at four stories and more than 36,000 square feet. After a period of relative silence, a developer has broken ground for a mixed-use building next to the Hollywood Theatre in Northeast Portland.
Hollywood District business owners and historic preservationists had concerns about the project, which was proposed to include approximately 52 apartment units and no parking. A project manager said the team was concerned about a prolonged design review process, and chose to use a different process so it could build without facing potentially costly and delay-inducing appeals.
