Let's talk: There will be a special meeting of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks' Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks at 3 p.m. on Monday at the MDWFP's main office conference room, 1505 Eastover Drive in Jackson. The agenda will include oral proceeding and final vote on several public notices, including WL6-2280 related to primitive weapons and W15 3434 on white-tailed deer. RICHLAND - When Matt Stutzman, of Richland, unzipped his bow case and began assembling his compound bow, it drew a lot of attention from some of the other shooters attending a target match hosted by the Webster County Bow Hunters and Archery Association. There is nothing special about Stutzman's bow, nothing special about his case, nothing special about the sights or the tools he uses to put them together with and nothing extra ordinary about his arrows.

When citizens got their turn to talk Tuesday about plans to increase the cost of some Virginia fishing and hunting licenses, John Wetlaufer picked a clever way to make his point. Striding to the podium in the board room at Department of Game and Inland Fisheries headquarters in Richmond, Wetlaufer reached into his pocket and pulled out a $5 bill.

YAKIMA - Wayne J. Klingele, a life long Yakima resident, passed away Sunday, October 17th, 2010 at sunrise, at Regional Hospital in Yakima, due to complications from colon cancer, that he bravely fought for 10 months. Wayne was born on May 17, 1937 in Yakima to Jim and Elma Klingele. Wayne was the eldest of four siblings. Wayne attended Yakima schools and spent time on the family farm, "Jackrabbit Gulch," in Prosser, with his brothers, sister and many other friends and family members. They also enjoyed going to the beach to dig for clams. But farming was not for Wayne and he volunteered for the Army, completing his basic combat training at Fort Lewis, WA, and spending time in Germany as a medical corpsman between 1956-1958, where he received the Good Conduct medal.

Sara Osborne peered through her binoculars, looked up at the deer on the hill, assessed the distance, drew and lifted her bow, and lined up the deer's vital organs with the high-tech sight pins of her compound bow. The shot hit the life-sized foam whitetail deer near its shoulder, winning Osborne 10 points at last weekend's Maine State 3-D Archery Championship. She was just shy of the quarter-sized circle she was aiming for, but the uphill shot was darned close.
