Duxiana beds are "designed to be the last bed you'll ever have to buy;' according to San Rafael store manager and merchandiser Roger Kelner. Only top quality components are used, he says, "from the tempered stainless steel springs to natural latex and hardwoods." The beds are made to last a lifetime -in fact, if s not unusual for a DUX bed to be passed down within a family - and beds can be adjusted as one's needs change. Along the "best of the best" in European linens rare, but oh-so-plush eiderdown (How is it? There are fewer eiderdown than Ferraris!), customers appreciate the big-box stores can offer- as well as the ity and value Duxiana offers. And, of course, a great night's sleep...

Vanderburgh County begins its annual fair this week. Many of our neighboring counties have wrapped up their fairs.
The thing that keeps these fairs running is the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers. As we perform the last-minute preparations for the fair, I wanted to tip my hat to all of the Tri- State folks who help make our fairs fun, safe and educational.

A number of newsworthy insects and diseases are going to affect residents of the Tri-State within the next few weeks. Not all of them will directly cause problems for people and plants in the Evansville area, but they are still worth knowing about.
First and foremost: The emerald ash borer has been officially found in Indiana. The 1/3 - inch, metallic green insect was found in a tree in Steuben County, about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne. This insect, which can kill an ash tree in just a year or two, had previously been found only in southeastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that I'm a big fan of trees. Not only are they attractive and add a living element to otherwise sterile urban areas, but they also greatly benefit our urban environment. An article in the December 2004 issue of Arborist News itemized some of the most recent research into the watershed, energy and air quality benefits of trees.
Urban stormwater runoff is a major source of pollution entering wetlands, streams and lakes. Fertilizer, ice-melting salt and oil are some of the pollutants that can wash off yards and roads and into streams and rivers. Tree canopies protect water supplies by intercepting rainfall, which reduces the amount of water runoff. They slow the speed of raindrops, decreasing soil erosion. The roots take up large amounts of moisture fro...
