  • A former St. Louis police officer, who was cleared in an excessive force lawsuit last summer, is suing the Police Department and the Board of Police Commissioners for refusing to pay for his defense. Christopher Dixon sued Eddie Boyd III and the police board, alleging Boyd struck him in the face with a handgun after responding to a call to break up a fight at Sumner High School in April 2007. Boyd's defense, however, was that he slipped on wet grass while chasing Dixon and accidentally struck Dixon with a pair of handcuffs.

  • APRIL 12-Cecil Potter, a 34-year-old White male from McKeesport, was fatally shot inside his McKeesport home at 1609 Abraham St. during an attempted home invasion. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert Pace, 20, and Bryan Gilbert, 15, has been charged with homicide, robbery, conspiracy, burglary, reckless endangerment and firearms violation. Gilbert will be charged as an adult. They are awaiting trial.   • A Homewood man who pleaded guilty on Monday to third-degree murder will spend the next 20 to 40 years in prison, an Allegheny County judge ruled. Common Pleas Judge Jill Rangos sentenced Donald Jones, 21, who admitted he fatally shot Walter Boyd, 16, of Homewood during an April 28, 2009, argument in the 600 block of Brushton Avenue. Boyd was shot several times, ran inside Mac Can Do's Bar and collapsed. He died that day in UPMC Presbyterian in Oakland.

  • WOOSTER -- , 77, Wooster, passed away peacefully at her home with family and friends by her side after a long illness on Sunday, April 17, 2011. She was born April 20, 1933, in Ashland, the daughter of Boyd Raymond and Florence Glorene Gill Miller. She married Clarence Hamlin on April 26, 1952. He survives.
