Senate President Bob Burns has reduced the size of the Senate Appropriations Committee to 9 from 11 members, ousting Sen. John Huppenthal and Sen. Albert Hale.
Huppenthal, a Chandler Republican, was appointed temporarily to the committee last year to replace Sen. Pamela Gorman. But Burns decided to shrink the size of the committee and opted to remove Huppenthal.

The Senate Appropriations Committee today will hear a proposed striker amendment on H2370 that would essentially revive a bill that Rep. Andy Tobin withdrew in January due to a lack of support. The bill would implement new regulations on payday lenders and allow the businesses to continue operating past a July 1 sunset date.
