AUGUSTA - Tamie Sakers and Marc Thompson were married at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Rev. Dr. Richard Sanders officiated.
Tamie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Sakers of Evans. She is the granddaughter of the late Marie Callahan of Salem, N.J. and Mr. and Mrs. Morton Sakers of West Grove, Penn. She is a graduate of Lakeside High School and of Georgia Southern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and of Augusta State University, where she earned a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education. She is employed as a Second Grade Teacher with the Columbia County Board of Education in Appling.

Columbia County residents got their first look at a proposed update to the growth management plan in two Thursday public meetings.
Several opinions were expressed at the Appling meeting, held at the Columbia County Board of Education office, but most agreed that, considering the county's continued population growth, the plan's priority should be to cut back urban sprawl by planning housing, industrial and commercial development.

Mrs. Catherine Lenoir Blanchard, beloved wife for 57 years of Nathan Vernon Blanchard, entered into rest at her residence Tuesday, July 19, 2005.
Mrs. Blanchard was born in Columbia, S.C., grew up in Cordele, Ga., and had lived in Appling for the past 52 years. She was a faithful member of Damascus Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher of young people for many years. She was also on numerous committees and served as chairman of the New Member Welcoming Committee. She was very active in the church's outreach ministry. She was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Georgia with degrees in art and education. She also received her Master's degree in Administration from the University of Georgia.
