Educational Tour Fundraiser Where: Applebees (Bonsack)
It looked like a military reunion at Applebees in Hamden the other night. The restaurant had offered a free meal to any veteran who showed up on Veterans Day, and they came in droves! Many wore caps depicting their branch of service: Army, Navy, Marine Corps and naval construction battalion workers, the Seabees. When my wife and I showed up at 5:30 p.m., the line went out the door. While waiting for a table, it was easy to strike up a conversation with the vets standing next to us, which I did.
A fundraiser for the Morongo Basin Special Olympics is being held Thursday at the Applebees restaurant in Yucca Valley. California Highway Patrol officers and San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies will be waiting tables from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the restaurant, 57796 29 Palms Hwy. Special Olympic athletes will be on hand to greet and mingle with customers.

The Kiwanis Club of Putnam County is organizing the first Taste of Putnam from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the large shelter at Valley Park in Hurricane. The event, which is a fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club, will feature food specialties from local restaurants and chefs. Visitors to Taste of Putnam purchase tickets for 50 cents each, which are then redeemable at the various vendors booths for sample-size dishes. The vendors price their sample dishes at a certain number of tickets, said Kiwanis Club President Debbie Frost. We have several restaurants that are helping us out, Frost said.
