One of the most telling observations about oral argument that I've heard anyone make came from a complete stranger who approached me immediately after the conclusion of a lively debate I had with seven judges who, to put it mildly, were a little skeptical of the trial court decision I had volunteered to defend on appeal. Energy producers' cases in the SemGroup bankruptcy received a boost Tuesday when the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted their motions to accept direct appeals of rulings by a Delaware bankruptcy judge, and to expedite the appeals. Attorney Steven Bugg said the appellate court also set an accelerated briefing schedule and oral argument for the issues it will hear directly, rather than having producers go through the federal district courts.
