In the urban setting, these women walked outside on city blocks or in shopping malls. Groups could organize to take walks after dinner. It didn't require going to the gym," [Deborah Nelson, Ph.D] said. "You don't have to run 20 miles a week to reap the benefits of exercise. If you stick to a moderate-paced walking schedule, it can keep your body mass index down and lower the risk of stress, anxiety and depression," she added.
"We recruited African-American and Caucasian women living in Philadelphia for this study to better represent the large population of urban women. These results can be generalizable to both urban Caucasian and African-American women, groups of women that have been under-represented in previous studies," Nelson said.

According to a survey conducted by Nationwide Children's Hospital, 85 percent of primary care doctors are uncomfortable diagnosing and treating anxiety in children, with another 54 percent uncomfortable diagnosing depression. Primary care doctors are typically the first to recognize potential mental problems in their patients but since they treat a wide range of conditions, both physical and mental, the opinion of a pediatric psychiatrist can prove invaluable when it comes to diagnosing and treating mental conditions. In addition, researchers and care providers alike agree that much of this discomfort stems from recent controversies surrounding prescribing antidepressrant medications that display black box warnings about potential side effects for their use in children.

Most of us work hard to earn a good income and provide the best lifestyle we can for our family. We try to be good husbands and wives, lovers, parents and breadwinners. We want to be happy and reach our goals. Sometimes we become overly focused on the future and take for granted the precious people and treasures already present in our lives.
Attaining goals can lead to brief feelings of happiness, but happiness is fleeting. We celebrate each achievement only briefly before it is replaced by another goal. Perceiving failure can result in feelings of depression and anxiety.
