In May 2006, a petition was signed by more than 300 intellectuals and activists from Syria and Lebanon, railing for an improvement in the relationship between the two countries. DAMASCUS, Syria - Syria banned the activities of unlicensed Kurdish political groups, a human rights activist and a leader of one of the parties said Thursday.

It has been eight months since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi embarked upon her foreign policy initiative to Syria to meet with President Bashar Assad.
