This month, many students will end one phase of their lives and begin another. College graduation is an exciting time, filled with much anticipation and anxiety -- anticipation that their academic preparation has given them the knowledge necessary to succeed in their chosen career and anxiety about the challenges that lie ahead. One of the challenges facing accounting graduates is to pass the CPA exam. With the SEC's renewed commitment to its plans to converge US GAAP with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), or adopt it outright, the AICPA Board of Examiners has decided to include material covering this topic. Every fall I get asked, "How's the new school year going?" I appreciate the question, and I enjoy giving the answer. I answer honestly and let community members know if there are any big concerns. Typically, my answer is the same, "It's going well.
This fall has a little different feel to it in comparison to the last four since I have been employed here at Lexington CUSD 7. I am filled with anticipation, enthusiasm and some anxiety as we begin a process in examining district growth.

The holiday season presents a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends. It is a great time to eat, drink, exchange gifts and end the year with a bang. Unfortunately, too often we are left with a holiday hangover that has our head hurting, our belt too tight and our wallet empty. Caught up in the holiday spirit, we over indulged in numerous ways and have to literally "crawl out" of the hole that we have dug for ourselves.
How do we get the same hangover every year? Now, I am not a psychologist, but the holiday season seems to bring out a number of emotions ranging from excitement and anticipation to anxiety and even depression. The social and psychological pressure to overindulge is at its zenith during this time of the year. It's difficult for anyone to avoid the holi...

A semi-structured focus group prompted interaction among 23 human service undergraduates prior to a unique service-learning experience that involved completing a horticultural project and case management tasks with at-risk youth living in a locked psychiatric residential treatment center. The focus group provided an opportunity for university students to voice expectations and concerns, clarify roles, and build cohesion prior to beginning the project. Researchers analyzed the focus group discussion transcript for content. Several themes emerged: excitement/anticipation (e.g., personal growth, learning and contribution), anxiety/apprehension (e.g., professional-client relationship, academic challenges and personal emotions), and mixed feelings specific to the horticultural aspect of the ...

MIAMI -- When the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts step on the Dolphin Stadium field today, they can expect to be swept up in a whirlwind of emotions, a combustible cocktail of anxiety and anticipation unlike anything most athletes ever experience.
And they will exit Super Bowl XLI with memories that will endure forever, ones that, years later, will instantly elicit either a smile or a grimace, ones that will be broached by strangers in supermarket aisles and restaurants long after the players have hung up their jerseys.
