The image and credibility of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has been seriously affected by the second death in less than two years of persons being investigated by it. The truth has to be uncovered and made public to avoid the national anti-graft agency from becoming a farce. THE SECOND death in less than two years of persons being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) could tarnish the image of the national anti-graft agency.
MANAMA, Bahrain, Aug. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bahrain's Prime Minister called for new measures to combat economic crime in an effort to fight corruption. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa noted in a work meeting that the establishment of an anti-corruption agency would be vital to ensuring a just economic system. Interior Ministry powers need to be expanded to strengthen internal and external operations of the government and implement what has been agreed upon at the National Dialogue," the Prime Minister said. Bolstering anti-corruption measures is one of many areas of National Dialogue reforms that the government will be implementing.
The six projects at the heart of an investigation into connections between Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon and local developer Ronald H. Lipscomb represent at least $562 million in investment, with at least $66 million of that coming in the form of public subsidies, according to an investigation conducted by The Daily Record. City Solicitor George A. Nilson acknowledged Friday that several city agencies, including the Board of Estimates, the City Council, the Board of Finance, the city's Department of Housing and Community Development and the Baltimore Development Corp. had received a second round of subpoenas from the Office of the State Prosecutor, an anti-corruption agency, seeking documents in connection to at least four of the projects.

THE DECISION TO RESTRUCTURE THE ANTI-Corruption Agency (ACA) into the Malaysian Commission on Anti-Corruption (MCAC) has received all- round praise. After all, corruption or rather the lack of efforts to address it, has been a key issue in the criticism against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's administration. He was seen as moving too slow to stamp out the growing menace, which was his promise in the 2004 election.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan's anti-corruption agency barred the defense minister and nearly 250 other top officials from leaving the country Thursday as political turmoil deepened following a Supreme Court ruling that struck down a graft amnesty. The court verdict means that up to 8,000 graft and other cases dating back to the 1990s have, or will soon be, reopened. The decision has roiled the country's political elite just as the United States is looking for a solid partner to help it fight against al- Qaida and the Taliban along the Afghan border.
