DAILY MAIL STAFF Kanawha County officials are growing wary of the increasing cost of paying exiting employees for unused vacation days. The so-called golden parachutes that often allow retiring employees to get thousands of dollars in extra pay when they leave their jobs could bust the countys budget. This year, auditors discovered the countys potential liability is $1.5 million to compensate employees for unused days off. That figure was up more than $300,000 from two years ago and up more than $200,000 from last year. The number represents the amount the county would pay out if all current 405 employees cashed out at one time.
