Phil Morris, Kanawha County Sheriff Dave Tucker's chief law enforcement deputy, plans to leave county employment this week with only 9.5 days of unused annual leave time, not the 33 days that a calculation by the county clerk's office indicated a few weeks ago. That means he's not due an additional $8,352.96 in county funds, as indicated earlier, but $2,404.64. And instead of collecting the money, Morris said Wednesday he'd just have the time credited toward his retirement.

Members of the Madison Property Owners Association don't think that local teachers are making the grade when it comes to attendance, but school officials are saying that the district actually has the lowest rate of teacher absenteeism.
