A survey of county residents found growing pessimism about the economy, disillusionment with national politics and concern that it the economic atmosphere would continue to be dark for the next year. The bi-annual survey conducted by the Center for the Study of Local Issues at Anne Arundel Community College quizzed 487 residents and also found:

Anne Arundel Community College will now pay President Martha A. Smith $703,000 to work as a consultant for five years after she retires next summer, under a contract signed in June.
The contract provided to the Maryland Gazette on Monday replaces a 2010 agreement college officials said last month would have paid Smith $692,000 for unused sabbatical leave to stay involved in the college after she steps down as president next August.
