Anne Arundel County residents have been exposed to unhealthy ozone levels that can cause wheezing and asthma attacks, according to a new report.
The American Lung Association's State of the Air 2011 report gives the county an F grade for smog and a C for fine particle pollution. The county's grades are the same as in 2010, which marked the first time Anne Arundel scored a C for particle pollution, after several years of D's and F's.

Minority contracting advocate Arnold M. Jolivet's son will consider a wrongful termination suit against the state now that an Anne Arundel County judge has reversed his conviction for theft of state funds.
Arnold M. Jolivet II was convicted in April for allegedly charging more than $4,000 in rental car bills to his state-issued credit card while working for the Maryland Environmental Service. But that conviction has been overturned after a motion by his lawyer, Alan H. Legum, revealed that key evidence was lacking.

For the last few Sundays I have sat in a pew at Second Baptist Church in Annapolis where I worship and looked around the congregation. It is small, passionate and exclusively African American. I believe many of you do the same thing on a given Sunday and whether your Congregation is large or small it is both passionate and almost uniformly segregated by race. Yes, Sunday, the day of prayer and worship in Anne Arundel County and much of our great country is still the most segregated day in our society.

A pair of Anne Arundel County products will receive the ultimate honor next month when they are recognized as being among the greatest athletes in the history of their respective schools.
Annapolis native Catharine von Schwarz will be inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 1, while Crofton native Chris Turner will be enshrined in the Salisbury University Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 15.

The only contested judicial general election in Maryland has turned nasty in its waning days.
A month-old political action committee -- Citizens for the Election of Qualified Judges -- has been distributing flyers to voters, accusing Anne Arundel County Circuit Court judge candidate Alison L. Asti of "taking advantage of Maryland taxpayers" when she worked for the Maryland Stadium Authority, a claim her attorney calls defamatory.
