There is a growing body of evidence pointing to better overall health among people who do not eat meat. Animal Friends Insurance Services Ltd has followed up this thinking with the launch at the beginning of August of a life insurance policy that gives a 6% discount to vegetarians and fish eaters. The underwriting is currently being done by Liverpool Victoria. Underwriters have told Animal Friends a long-term agreement would depend on the generation of L500,000 (about $1 million) in premium income. For now at least, Animal Friends is taking a lower commission in order to generate the 6% discount.
