  • FARMINGTON - U. S. Rep. Michael Michaud, D-Maine, got a rain- soaked look, eye-to-eye, with a herd of purebred Black Angus bulls Thursday, saw greenhouses lush with young tomato plants and walked through Franklin County's only milk processing operation to meet the farmers and hear their concerns. Access to affordable health care, budget cuts to critical county agricultural programs and local food projects that will be able to promote regional sustainability were the issues on farmers' minds.

  • I love Jimi Hendrix. He has influenced multiple generations of guitarists including AC/ DC's Angus Young, Lenny Kravitz, Eddie Van Halen, Prince, Styx's James Young and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, to name a few.

  • [Kate Gridley] hasn't yet decided how the governor should be posed. And, she notes, "It's not purely up to me." But she'll probably want to depict [James Douglas] in a standing position, she says, because that's how she's always pictured him. Prior to a recent photo shoot, Gridley had spoken to the governor only once or twice, but she has observed him for years in his role as moderator of Middlebury's town meeting. Describing herself as a fiscally conservative Democrat, Gridley says she has no qualms about memorializing a Republican governor. In fact, she believes it's a testament to Douglas' leadership that Vermont "will come out of this recession in pretty good shape." Gridley also respects Douglas' "willingness to stand up and say what he thinks, regardless of whether it's popular." ...

  • You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find guys who look and sound like rock legends. Maybe there's a dude who sounds like Angus Young but looks like Dick Cheney. Or maybe he looks like Angus but sounds like John Tesh.

  • ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- More than 100 young Angus and Hereford bulls are on a working vacation at 8,700 feet above sea level in northern New Mexico, chomping on lush, high-meadow grass, helping researchers and ranchers get a handle on a disease that causes 75,000 cattle deaths each year across the West. In a study by New Mexico State University and the New Mexico Beef Cattle Performance Association, researchers are conducting high- altitude cattle performance testing on the bulls to determine which are susceptible to high-altitude disease. The findings could help ranchers develop a genetic line of altitude-resistant cattle.

  • First is the bass player in a sweater vest. For those of you who haven't received your latest issue of Cargo, argyle is the new black. Then there is the drummer in his prep school uniform. The irony should scream at you, that is if Angus Young hadn't popularized the boarding school look 30 years ago.

  • Churchland's recycling residents have no doubt noticed the recycling bins that sat near the Cedar Lane fire station are gone. The city's General Services Department told me the bins were removed because hazardous materials were being discarded there. Churchlanders who want to recycle must now take items to the Broad Street fire station in Port Norfolk. I'm told the bins will be returned, though a date is unknown. I guess this is another case of a few bad apples ruining something for everyone else. Eagle Scout Landon Prever is a big AC/DC fan, and his parents took him to see the band in November to celebrate finishing his Eagle service project. Mom Beth really wanted a letter from the band to present at Landon's Court of Honor, so she joined the AC/DC fan club, wrote to the record label,...

  • LOS ANGELES (AP) - "Two and a Half Men" is a success, and why not? The CBS comedy is smartly cast, with Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer as mismatched siblings, one a slick womanizer, the other a hapless nerd. Holland Taylor is their icy mother and promising young actor Angus T. Jones is the cuddly kid in the middle.
