Nina L. Faltus, a lifelong Brant resident, charter member of the Brant Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a founding member of the town Historical Society, died Tuesday in Erie County Medical Center. She was 87. Born Nina Notaro on a family farm, she attended Brant School District No. 1 and graduated from Angola High School and Chown School of Business.
Hypothermia, fall caused death of Angola student The Lake Shore High School student found dead in a wooded area in the Town of Evans died from hypothermia, with complications from injuries suffered in a fall, authorities reported Monday.
Frank A. Saeli Sr., the founder and former owner of the manufacturer Abasco Inc., died July 9 in his North Boston home. He was 83. Born in Dunkirk, he was a graduate of Angola High School, where he was class president. Mr. Saeli earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Buffalo and then obtained his license as a certified mechanical engineer in New York state.

Sam J. Licata, of Kenmore, an associate director of marketing for Allentown Industries who had a passion for restoring Studebakers, died Tuesday in Buffalo General Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 58. A native of Angola, Mr. Licata graduated from Eden High School in 1971, before going on to earn a degree in industrial engineering from Buffalo State College in 1976. In high school, he was a member of the symphonic band, where he played clarinet. His love of music led to the organizing of a band with his friends that continued playing through the 1990s.
The Works Progress Administration lives on in the steep toboggan hill at Chestnut Ridge Park, the polar bear habitat in the Buffalo Zoo and Main Street in East Aurora. Its presence is felt in the decorative cast-stone reliefs at A.D. Price Courts on the East Side, the murals that adorn the walls of Angola Post Office and Barker High School and the art deco Buffalo school building that's now home to Frederick Law Olmsted students.
Frank C. Vail Jr., a former carpenter and owner of two businesses, died Friday in Hamburg after a long illness. He was 76. Mr. Vail was a lifelong resident of Derby and a graduate of Angola High School.
Orchard Park School Board members went to Livingston County to find their next superintendent, who is a Western New York native. Matthew McGarrity, superintendent of the Dansville Central School District, was born in Angola and graduated from Lake Shore Central High School. McGarrity, 43, will take over as Orchard Park school superintendent July 1, after Joan Thomas retires.

Cheryl D. Delano, of Angola, a retired teacher and Evans town historian, died Saturday in Absolut Care of Orchard Park, after a short illness. She was 68. The former Cheryl Tanner was a Silver Creek native and grew up in Angola. She graduated from Lake Shore Central High School in 1961 and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and her master's degree from Michigan State University.
