  • The Buffalo Bisons have posted a trio of four-game winning streaks this season and will try to do it for a fourth time in the opener of tonight's doubleheader against the Durham Bulls in Coca- Cola Field. To do it, they'll have to beat one of the key cogs of the Tampa Bay Rays' 2008 World Series team. Right-hander Andy Sonnanstine, a 13-game winner for the '08 Rays, will be the starter for Durham in the opener. Sonnantine has struggled to find his '08 form as he went 6-9 for the Rays in 2009 and 3-1 last year in 41 appearances (23 starts). He was 0-2, 5.71 this year in 14 games (four starts) before being optioned to Durham, where he is 2-3, 4.17 in six games (five starts).

  • PITTSBURGH - Backup catcher Shawn Riggans homered and drove in two runs and Tampa Bay completed a remarkable first-half turnaround, beating Pittsburgh 4-3 on Sunday behind Andy Sonnanstine's seven effective innings. The Rays are 49-32, giving them the most victories midway through a season by a team that had the majors' worst record the season before, according to Stats, Inc.

  • PHILADELPHIA -- Andy Sonnanstine is easy to overlook. He doesn't throw hard, he's spent only two years in the major leagues and he's the No. 4 starter on a Tampa Bay pitching staff primed with power arms.

  • Andy Sonnanstine threw a three-hitter for his first career complete game, and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the visiting Chicago White Sox, 5-0, on Saturday night. The White Sox had just three singles, including a bunt hit, and didn't get a runner past second base. After two of the hits, Sonnanstine later got inning-ending double play grounders.

  • INTERLEAGUE Rays 4, Pirates 3 Backup catcher Shawn Riggans homered and drove in two runs Sunday and Tampa Bay completed a remarkable first-half turnaround, beating Pittsburgh behind Andy Sonnanstine.

  • Rays 6, Angels 4 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Cliff Floyd and Eric Hinske hit two-run homers for Tampa Bay, helping Andy Sonnanstine get his 13th win in a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night.

  • Rays 5, Cubs 4 ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Andy Sonnanstine allowed three runs in five-plus innings and the Tampa Bay Ray's improved bullpen shut down the Chicago Cubs for the second straight game in a 5-4 victory on Wednesday night.

  • Kyle Davis looked out from beneath the grandstand roof at historic Goodall Park as a light drizzle fell on the grass. Growing up less than half an hour away, across the state line in Rochester, N.H., Davis had sat in these seats with his father, watching baseball on a field that once welcomed Babe Ruth and, more recently, served as a springboard for current major league pitchers Andy Sonnanstine and Kevin Slowey.

  • Good pitching, solid defense and timely hitting is a winning combination the surprising Tampa Bay Rays rarely put together when they were managed by Lou Piniella. Andy Sonnanstine allowed three runs in five-plus innings and Tampa Bay's improved bullpen shut down their old manager's Chicago Cubs for the second straight game in a 5-4 victory on Wednesday night in St. Petersburg, Fla.
