Thomas (Tom) L. Jones, 89, of Peterstown, W.Va., passed away Friday, April 29, 2011. He was a devoted husband to Betty Lou Lawrence Jones, for 68 years. Thomas was born October 29, 1921, son of Grover and Grace Buckland Jones, one of 16 brothers and one sister. As a young man he was baptized into the Christian faith. Tom served in the Army during World War II, was a charter member of the Rowe-Jones American Legion Post 145, and proudly served as Post Commander for numerous years. He was instrumental in the building of the Rowe-Jones Veterans War Memorial in Peterstown. Tom was a charter member of the Peterstown Fire Department serving as an active member for many years. A Costa Mesa man was killed Saturday when the off-road vehicle he was riding in rolled several times in the open desert near Calico Ghost Town, authorities said.
Andrew Ryan McKenzie, 26, was pronounced dead in the Calico dry lake bed in Yermo, about three miles south of Calico Ghost Town.

Speaking on Monday at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Area Council One meeting at the Little Copa Club in Bull Bay, St Andrew, McKenzie placed the threat on his life in the context of the aftermath of the shooting death of Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Chairman Douglas Chambers.

[Caroline McKenzie] has sung liturgical music in Europe, Los Angeles and her native New York. She's fallen into a style she calls "smooth jazz sacred," a sound easily identified on her CD, Christmas with Caroline. Marina [Marina Boudart Harris] is a Southern California native studying in the vocal studio of Shigemi Matsumoto. She has been a featured professional soloist in numerous choral works. She plans to attend the Thornton School of Music next fall to pursue a master's degree in voice. Jade lin Hornbaker is a native of Blandinsville, IL and now resides in Los Angeles. She finished her Masters in Vocal Performance at Washington University in May 2007. She has performed many oratorios. The Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County branch of the NAACP held a Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Celebration Jan. 16.
The event was held at Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church in Christiansburg, and more than 140 people attended. The invocation was provided by Eric Hallerman of the Blacksburg Jewish Community Center. A Youth Choir, directed by Angela Sills, including Andrew Palmer, Xavier Kane, Cameron Long, Marquis Sills, Allison Foster, Gabby Pascoe, and Malcolm Sills, sang "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." Piano accompaniment was by Mike Hicks.

The mayor told the gathering that he is very critical of the church and the role that they are playing in helping to solve the problem. "The church has failed the people in many ways," he said. "Some members adopt the attitude of hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil. Jamaicans are a praying people, and you here in Canada can help us with your prayer.

Mayor Mckenzie presented Bishop Battieste with the Key of Kingston, a gesture that earned both men a standing ovation. Battieste thanked the mayor for the honour bestowed upon him.
