• Andre Berto: Is He Willing to Be Great?

This week Andre Berto returns to action to defend his WBC crown against Luis Collazo on HBO. Collazo is 29-3 with just 14 knockouts, but lasted 12 rounds with Sugar Shane Mosley. Berto is 23-0 with 19 knockouts, but his last fight against feather hitting Steve Forbes left many wondering if Berto has the desire to be great in a division that his loaded with talented fighters. Berto is not a Mosley who lives to train and trains to live. I question if he has the work ethic or desire of Antonio Margarito or youngster Devon Alexander. The tickets which were moderately price at $300 for ringside and as little as $25 for the upper bowl have been moving at a brisk pace and the fight is almost a sure bet to be a sellout at Staples Center Jan. 24.

• Ortiz Shooting for the Stars After Win

Victor Ortiz listened for nearly two years as people in the boxing industry questioned his courage after his sixth-round technical knockout loss to hard-hitting Marcos Maidana in June 2009 at Staples Center. To some, Ortiz's body language in that sixth round indicated he wanted out. It's doubtful those who wondered if Ortiz has heart are still wondering after Ortiz's dazzling and gutty performance in wresting away Andre Berto's welterweight world title last Saturday. Ortiz twice decked Berto, but Ortiz also tasted the canvas twice - the final time in the sixth round when Berto belted him with a vicious right cross.
