Any rock music fan who sat down to compile a list of the greatest British rockers ever would have to start with Paul McCartney and John Lennon of the Beatles, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Pete Townshend of the Who and perhaps a few representatives of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
After that, not too far down the list, would be Ray Davies, the co-founder and main creative genius of the feisty, frantic and amazing band called the Kinks.

It's difficult to look at Charlie Davies and not dwell on the deep scar that runs from ear to ear across the top of his skull, a reminder of the night he nearly died.
And Davies wouldn't have it any other way. After all, the 24- year-old D.C. United striker keeps his hair shortly cropped so he never loses sight of the wound ? one of many he suffered in the early hours of Oct. 13, 2009, when the car he was riding in ripped in half as it spun off the George Washington Parkway in Virginia.

[Deb Haylor McDowell] noted that his wife, an artist and full-time art instructor at Onondaga Community College, is exploring the possibility of gallery space at OCC to display [Jeff Davies]' work with a sale, perhaps to establish a scholarship fund for Davies' grandchild. "[Frank Malfitano] offered to have the party at OCC," Haylor McDowell said. "I said, 'Frank, there's only one problem with that. I think there's going to be an awful lot of vodka there and the state won't let that happen on campus.'" Reflecting that the party could be a throwback to the Be-Ins of the 1960s which helped foster Davies' visual style, McDowell hopes the fireworks display he provides for Jazz Fest can be part of the memorial.
Everson Museum of Art director Sandra Trop recalled that Davies' work appeared in...

STROKE VICTIM THE KINKS' DAVIES PERFORMS Former Kinks guitarist Dave Davies, 64, who was severely debilitated after suffering a major stroke in June 2004, performed a full 90-minute concert for the first time since then, according to a post on the Kink's fan page, KPS Digest. Posts from other attendees at the event at the Hindu-themed website, Satsang-pilgrim, verified this.
Davies and his longtime Los Angeles-based post-Kinks band performed full sets on successive nights at a Hindu-based retreat. A concert attendee said Davies was a bit rusty the first night, "and humbly asked permission to start a couple songs again but made up for it 3- fold the next night ripping into the songs without a moment's hesitation and without missing a beat.
