The push to ban smoking in public places is growing in St. Charles County, and while no one is disputing the health benefits that would come with such a prohibition, there is some disagreement about its economic benefit.
Lake Saint Louis already has a smoking ban in place, and a ban in O'Fallon is scheduled to take effect June 16. Now the County Council appears ready to approve a bill that could lead to a countywide ban on smoking in indoor workplaces and at arenas, stadiums, amphitheaters and all public places.

There's no explaining how a man can stand over an 18-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole of a tournament -- in one of golf's best amphitheaters, the banks around the 18th green at TPC Sawgrass -- and execute the purest of pure strokes to make birdie and force a playoff, and then not 20 minutes later face an uphill putt of 3 1/2 feet to extend that playoff, and flat-out miss. Yet that was David Toms' fate Sunday evening at The Players Championship, exhilaration to devastation -- win to loss -- in less than half an hour.
I just wasn't there on the putt," Toms said.

If you'd only consider braving the heat for music, you can choose between a Frank Sinatra contest in Hoboken and a weeks-long tribute to the King of Pop in Newark.

Many Roanoke City Council members of the past 10 years were elected amid debates over stadiums and amphitheaters.
City campaigns often hinged on the fate of a proposed or ongoing project. Victory Stadium was clearly the most divisive capital issue of the decade, but others have factored into elections as well: The City Market Building, stadiums at the city's two high schools, Countryside Golf Course, and proposed amphitheaters on Orange Avenue, in Elmwood Park or by the Roanoke River.
