In 1998, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes announced that he was seeking the death penalty against Bonton for the November 1995 execution-style murders of two Brooklyn men whom Bonton mistakenly thought were drug dealers. A Freedom of Information Law requestby the Voice to the Brooklyn district attorney's office produced a preliminary ballistics report show- ing that the gun bore evidence ofhaving been fired and that the gun and ammunition were deemed "operable." [...] the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms had copies of the NYPDs ballistics reports on Page's Beretta and the Davis-Epstein murders, but those records were lost when the ATF office was destroyed in the 9Al attacks.

Three neighbors of Yale-affiliated Dr. Vajinder Toor testified along with two Branford police officers and a state police detective Wednesday on the first day of a probable cause hearing to determine whether Dr. Lishan Wang will stand trial for murder in Toor's death. The hearing opened six days shy of the first anniversary of Toor's shooting on April 26, 2010. Superior Court Judge Roland Fasano made no ruling, and the hearing will resume Monday. All three neighbors -- Marylyn Franks, Kerry Klein Mascaro and Christine Drew - - heard two volleys of multiple shots each and saw an older model red or maroon van that Toor's killer was driving. Two of the neighbors saw the killer, who they believed to be a man, even though his head was covered with a towel or blanket.

Only one videotape exists from the City Grill shootings, and it shows Riccardo M. McCray firing a handgun, authorities said Tuesday in response to his lawyers' assertions that a second male shooter is also shown on tape. Defense attorneys contend that two men are holding handguns in the video, but police say that a second man on the tape is holding an object in his hand that is not a gun.
