ADA, Construction & Corrections
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) has sweeping consequences for every American workplace since it covers all offices, industries and professions. With respect to correctional facilities, ADA's impact is likely to be felt most in the employee selection process since the new law explicitly bars discriminatory hiring practices and suggests ways to eliminate them. Correctional administrators who wish too comply with ADA's provisions in this area can start by reviewing all aspects of their employee selection process to ensure that discriminatory features are removed.
